| eh eh I don't know the ones you talked about but I'm into some manga/anime stuff... I'm an avid reader of Gantz, Tenjou Tenge & Vagabond. I liked Berskerk but then stopped... We got overexposed to japanese anime in the '80. When we were children we had a LOT of series on tv, every day. From Hokuto no Ken (yeah with the blood in the afternoon) to robots (Go Nagai rules!) and stuff. I'm a fan of Masamune Shirow. Ever read anything by him? (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed...) I droned out with a friend once watching the full Serial Experiment Lain vhs .... we were fucked up... at the time we were fucking our minds with neon genesis evangelion. Did you ever understood something there? eh eh | |

Did you ever understood something there? eh eh I used to watch hokuto no ken, this was on french TV channel TF1, they called it ken le survivant (kent the survivor i guess) I now have the whole series on DVD 173 episodes, and the european release as well which is the first 32 episodes remastered., also have New fists of the northstar series but havent watched that yet... I have seen ghost in the shell the movie but not the series, never watched any of the others you mentioned though i have seen trailers for neon evangelis and berserk. i have She: ultimate weapon on dvd but havent watched it yet. only saw the first episode of this. also have the whole of db, dbz and dbgt and all the OVAs an movies, but havent watched GT and most of the movies yet... elfen lied series was pretty damn good too as was the ninka scrolls series have several movies like monster city which is a great little film. and ninja scrolls, vampire hunter D, sword of truth and others. you can see a lot of manga on www.surfthechannel.com i was watching this fucking weird one called strawberry eggs. another series i am watching which I am just finishing off is vampire princess miyu, got the 4 OVAs ready to watch afterwards, and am going to download the Samurai 7 series at some point too. got basilisk and full metal panic waiting on some cd-rs a friend gave as well, but i misplaced those while moving house this summer I've never read any Manga before, though I wouldnt mind collecting some, in the UK a lot of anime is refered to as Manga as its release and spread by a distribution firm named Manga. back when living in hong kong I did have a friend who had all the dragonball books, but as I didnt speak or read chinese i couldnt understand, i just had a flick through them checking the pictures - jb wrote:

I remember watching dragonball and dragonball Z back in the 80s on TF1, part of club dorothee, together with bioman and maskman, they used to show shitloads of jap stuff on there.

| I'm not familiar with all that but I have to recommend Deathnote series in case you havent seen it. I've seen the first 6-7 episodes and was very interesting and with a nice dark atmosphere. But again, I don't know much, so it could be nothing special for you in comparison to other stuff. | |

I never really understood the appeal myself. I've tried to watch the stuff, just doesn't hold my interest. there is such a wide variety in this area that there should be something of interest to anyone, although i guess there are those who cant enjoy it since it's drawn/cartoon form. but anime ranges from animated movies darker or more violent than most films to really happy clappy stuff about transvestite school teachers trying to prove male teachers are just as good as female teachers to the sexist school principal. - Lycaon wrote:

yes death note has been recommended a few times, not gotten round to checking it out though, there's so much out there, that for someone who does enjoy it, there's probably too much to find.

I frown upon this topic. I think these are the REAL guilty pleasures... About variety... damn there is a manga or an anime for almost every people... and if you go into perversions there's an erotic or weird and bizzare manga/anime for all the sick stuff you can have in mind and even more. Scatological, amputations and so on.... the only trouble sometimes is the repetiveness of the series. but it was/is because of the format. Weekly stuff going on for YEARS, and after a while, unfortunately, stuff going on and on only because of business, merchandise and stuff... I prefer closed series, with a beginning and an end, even if I found some old things enjoyable (like hokuto for instance)

| yes a lot of series seem to be coming out now which are only about 12-24 episodes long.
you'd probably be more into the anime movies then where its just a 90minute feature or so

| I have to jump into this one. While I am by no means like a japanophile or even an anime freak I do like quite a bit
Roroni Kenchin Ghost in the Shell .Hack//Sign Anything Gundam related (my giant robot fetish) Yu Yu Hakusho I grew up with Toonami on cartoon network so I was exposed to a lot of anime as a kid.
